Trodd en Bratt

In 2007 Lucy Trodd and Ruth Bratt met on the improvised comedy circuit. They were (and still are) in rival short-form impro groups (The Institute and Scratch) performing in London.  Fate united them as founder members of a new group, Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, which received rave reviews at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2009, and has acquired a cult following with its weekly performances at The King's Head, Islington and monthly shows in the West End at The Leicester Square Theatre.  At first Ruth perceived Lucy as "overly tall" and Lucy thought Ruth "had a nice jumper" but they soon bonded over a shared love of writing poetry, so much so that they played identical twins in Pack Up Your Troubles, a non-stop 50-hour improvised play at The People Show Studios, Bethnal Green.  Lucy worked in advertising for seven years before her epiphany when her début play Burnt Salad was performed at Soho Theatre.  Ruth was a guide for London Duck Tours which inspired her one-woman Edinburgh show And On Your Left... which was commissioned for development this year by Fremantle.  While enjoying solo success on the stand-up circuit, they get more of a buzz from collaboration, using their impro background to find characters and enrich and free-up the text and narrative. They note and enjoy the use of impro in the comedy of Larry David, Christopher Guest and Mike Leigh and would cite Joyce Grenfell, French and Saunders, Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Ricky Gervais, and Acorn Antiques as powerful influences.  Lucy is moving house to be nearer to Ruth and the cafe under her flat where the excellent tea and homemade jam has a direct correlation to the amount of creativity and work produced.  Trodd en Bratt hope one day to run their own teashop/bookshop with a small stage for reading new writing. They continue to perform their sketch comedy and can regularly be seen appearing in Showstopper!

They truly are the masters of longform improvisation. These guys have to be seen to be believed! More TALENT on stage than you can shake a stick at!' Time Out

'Showstopper ROCKS ... As you leave grinning, you will wonder how they can possibly muster such enthusiasm, wit and joie de vivre every night.' What's on Stage
